A message to criminals!

How much will we take?

When a pair of youthful armed robbers hit a convenience store in tiny Carlotta, Calif., the residents formed a posse and gave chase. They called ahead to another nearby town, Swain`s Flat, and asked for help. The Swain`s Flat citizens called another town, Bridgeville, and alerted Loretta Scott and Gloria Falor. Scott and Falor raised a posse which waited at their end of Bridgeville Bridge. When the robbers` getaway car was halfway across the span, the Bridgeville citizens blocked their end with cars and trucks. Meanwhile, the pursuing Carlotta contingent blocked the other end. Several citizens armed themselves, but no gunfire was needed. Sheriff`s deputies appeared and arrested the stranded criminals. (The Times-Standard, Eureka, CA, 4/15/82) (AR 7/82)

Joseph Dean of Winchester, Calif., and Wendell Knighton of McGill, Nev., were stopped at a rest area near Jackpot, Nev., when they saw a man shoot a sheriff`s deputy. As the criminal advanced on his car, Dean grabbed a pistol, rolled under the vehicle and exchanged shots with him. Knighton, sitting in his own car, opened up, too. In the fusillade, the criminal was killed with no injury to bystanders. Meanwhile, Knighton`s wife and sister-in-law gave first aid to the fallen deputy, probably saving his life. (The Daily Free Press, Elko, NV, 7/30/82) (AR 9/82)

When James Hill saw police and helicopters searching the area around his Norco, Calif., home, he suspected that there might have been an escape from the nearby California Rehabilitation Center. So he reached for a .357 Mag. revolver and a 12-ga. shotgun, summoned his dog and began to search his own property. His vigilance was soon rewarded as the dog located an escapee in a tack room behind the Hill home. Hill held the prisoner for sheriff`s deputies. (The Press-Enterprise, Riverside, CA, 3/13/82) (AR 8/82)

The wife of the SPD officer is right over on Sbynews.blogspot.com. They've had the same number of officers for the last 12 years and look at the increase in the number of residents. This Mayor has overseen massive annexation and population growth yet has refused to increase the number of officers on the road. Gross neglince on the part of the city administration. The increase in crime is a direct result. The residents have been rendered victims at the mercy of the common criminal. Yes, the economy plays a role but not on the scale that we have here. The result of citizens being stripped of the right to defend themselves is exacerbated. We MUST contact our legislators now and demand that our right to keep and bear arms and to carry a concealed firearm be decriminalized so that we can begin to adequately defend ourselves where the police cannot. The state CANNOT legislate away what our constitution guarantees. How long will we remain victims of those who govern poorly? When will we make a united stand? The time is now folks. Contact your elected officials and tell them. Locally, more officers. Statewide, decriminalize the carrying of concealed firearms by citizens with no criminal record and proper training.

Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons BanThe Ban Expired in 2004 During the Bush Administration. By JASON RYANWASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2009—

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today. "As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters. Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border. "I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S. Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S. A State Department travel warning issued Feb. 20, 2009, reflected government concerns about the violence. "Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez." At the news conference today, Holder described his discussions with his Mexican counterpart about the recent spike in violence. "I met yesterday with Attorney General Medina Mora of Mexico, and we discussed the unprecedented levels of violence his country is facing because of their enforcement efforts," he said. Holder declined to offer any time frame for the reimplementation of the assault weapons ban, however. "It's something, as I said, that the president talked about during the campaign," he said. "There are obviously a number of things that are -- that have been taking up a substantial amount of his time, and so, I'm not sure exactly what the sequencing will be." In a brief interview with ABC News, Wayne LaPierre, president of the National Rifle Association, said, "I think there are a lot of Democrats on Capitol Hill cringing at Eric Holder's comments right now." During his confirmation hearing, Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee about other gun control measures the Obama administration may consider. "I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller," Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual's right to own a weapon. The Assault Weapons Ban signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns and ammunition clips with more than 10 rounds. "A semi-automatic is a quintessential self-defense firearm owned by American citizens in this country," LaPierre said. "I think it is clearly covered under Heller and it's clearly, I think, protected by the Constitution."

Range In Mardela Springs

I had the opportunity to visit Delmarva Sporting Clays today and was pleased with what they had to offer. The price to shoot is $15.00 per person for all day. That includes rifle AND pistol ranges. They also have a skeet range. They have special rates for fund rasing events and they have an instructor available for individual instruction. While I was there I couldn't resist the purchase of three Osama Bin Laden full size pistol targets - just for the novelty. They also have a large selection of used rifles and shotguns to fit almost an budget. If any of you want to get together for a few hours to shoot let me know and we can set something up. Warmer weather is coming.

Delmarva Sporting Clays is located at the end of Bradley Rd. off of the eastbound lanes of Rt. 50 just east of the Vienna Bridge. The proprietor is a retired state trooper. If you get a chance, stop in and see what they have.

Facts you may not know about the Mexican invasion

Border agents to Americans: "You have been invaded"

A working relationship based upon mutual trust and respect has evolved between Minuteman Project volunteers and U.S. Border Patrol agents. But efforts to stem the tide of illegal crossings are frustrated by U.S. Border Patrol management—which gets its orders from the White House.
In an April 30, 2006 article for www.NewsWithViews.com, National Association of Chiefs of Police Vice-President Jim Kouri stated, "You have been invaded, America. There are reportedly 20 million illegal aliens in this country now, and the number could be much higher."
In advance of the May Day protest, Kouri interviewed officials from Local 2544 which represents Border Patrol agents in Arizona. They claim that, while Congress and the Bush administration claim they are beefing up border security, the men and women on the frontlines know the sad truth: "There is no way to call for backup. It’s inexcusable. Our vehicle fleet is falling apart, with many patrol vehicles in excess of 100,000 or 200,000 very hard miles. We are constantly told there is ‘no funding’ for new vehicles, so we continue to drive unreliable junk year after year after year...Don’t listen to the smooth-talking pinheads who tell you otherwise."
Evidence supporting these claims is overwhelming. The present severity of the illegal immigration issue is a direct result of Bush administration policy as facilitated by a compliant Congress. Thousands of illegals cross the border every day. U.S. immigration law recognizes that an undocumented border crossing is an illegal act, but law enforcers are not provided with sufficient resources to prevent the criminal activity. "Our president, George W. Bush, is doing nothing more than winking at them [illegals] and promising them a huge amnesty program," Local 2544 officials said.
"We try every day to stem this massive wave of illegal immigration, but we are overwhelmed, ill-equipped, underfunded, and sold out by politicians. We lost this battle years ago," the officials said in a press release.
It is estimated that 40 percent of the people still in Mexico say they want to come here. "Take it from the troops on the front lines, America—the borders of this country are completely out of control," Kouri concluded.

Immigration stats from The LA Times:
1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L.A.County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9 million Speak Spanish (10 million people in L.A.County).
Additional figures:
1. Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare.
2. Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.
3. The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET (after subtracting taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University].
4. The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE.
5. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

Some Self -Defense Tips

As violent crime goes up across the nation, it is becoming increasingly obvious that it can NEVER be the job of the law enforcement community to keep us safe. We must use what is available to us to take responsibility for our own safety. We'd like to believe that we are safe in our own homes and neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, no one can offer you a guarantee that you will never, at some point in your life, find yourself in a situation where you may be forced to defend yourself. Whether it be from an assailant who tries to attack you to get money, personal property or someone who attempts to perpetrate a sexual assault or worse, a confrontation could happen, and you would certainly benefit from learning defense techniques to use in dangerous situations.
There are many self defense methods individuals may study and utilize for their personal protection should the need arise. If you are ever attacked, chances are it will be very sudden and you will have to act quickly. Knowing a variety of self defense and fighting techniques will help keep you safe, and ensure that you walk away unharmed. A predator may choose you as a target because you appear to be unarmed and unable or unwilling to fight back. In a situation like this you may have to resort to hand-to-hand combat, so practicing a martial art such as karate or judo will be very beneficial. You can learn to use every part of your body as a weapon to stop an attacker and give yourself a chance to escape. The goal is to put down the criminal as quickly as you can with a palm strike, a knuckle punch or an effective kick to a vulnerable area if possible. During a scenario like this, the important thing to remember is to act calm act quickly, take every advantage you can and get away safely.
Some people prefer to carry a self defense weapon of some sort that will disable a criminal and put a stop to any attack. While many people may carry a gun, there are alternatives available as well. Devices such as a stun gun, Taser or pepper spray are powerful enough to incapacitate any person, and yet they have no long term effects. Individuals who choose to carry a weapon should learn how to use it properly, and keep it within easy reach when going into a situation that could be potentially risky or dangerous. Read up on all the information here - Crimepreventiontips.org - about how to defend yourself and be ready.

Toys?

OK folks. No one knows who we are or where we live. What kind of toys do we have? I have several but my favorites right now are my Ruger Mini-14 with a folding paratrooper stock and a Yugoslavian SKS with a Tapco stock, and lighted optics. What do you have fun with when you go to the range?

Stories of armed citizens in defense mode

We read stories every day depicting people as victims of violent criminals. Did you ever wonder what the news would look like if we had our right to keep and bear arms restored?

Look at these:

1) A nurse was home with her sick children when a man knocked on the door. She'd never seen him before, so she quieted the children and didn't answer. Undeterred, the man circled the house and tried to kick in the kitchen door, prompting the nurse to hide her children in a bedroom closet and tell the oldest to dial 9-1-1. The terrified child placed the call, saying, "We are going to die today." But police say the nurse wasn't going to allow that to happen. She retrieved a .38-caliber revolver, peered down the hallway and saw the burglar standing in the living room. "I came at him and started firing," she recalls. The burglar fled the scene. Speaking to a reporter, the nurse urged other women to consider gun ownership and to take firearm-training classes. (The News Courier, Athens, AL, 11/20/08)

Woo Hoo! You go girl!

2) Police say a would-be burglar is probably feeling pretty inept at his illicit trade. First, he was caught entering a bathroom window by the home's 70-year-old female occupant, so he fled the scene. Minutes later he attempted to burglarize a second home, this time entering the home of Richard and Phyllis Osborne. Mrs. Osborne heard a ruckus, but a quick investigation showed nothing amiss—that is, not until Mr. Osborne noticed the bedspread was out of place. A closer look revealed the suspect's knuckles poking out from beneath the bedspread. Mr. Osborne aimed his shotgun at the suspect, ordered him to come out and held him for police. "I wasn't scared, I was mad," Mr. Osborne said. "I was mad because he scared my wife." (Gaston Gazette, Gastonia, NC, 11/24/08)

Chivalry is NOT dead! Good for you, sir!

3) Gabriel Guzman was awakened by the incessant ringing of his doorbell. Worried about the bell ringer's intentions, he peered out the window and saw an unknown man walking in his backyard. As a precaution, Guzman armed himself with a gun before investigating. "I opened up the door and yelled at him and I just told him to get away," Guzman explained. Instead, police say, the suspect pointed a gun at Guzman. " ... I thought he was going to shoot me—so I shot him," Guzman said. Police arrested the wounded suspect, who they believe committed two other burglaries in the neighborhood before trying his luck at the Guzman home. (KCBD-TV, Lubbock, TX, 11/24/08)

I'd like to have Mr. Guzman for a neighbor!

4) Being burglarized four times was too much for 69-year-old Air Force veteran John Lewis. He decided he'd had enough. "I mean I'm not going to sit here and let somebody rob me over and over again," he said. So when he heard an unexplainable sound one evening, Lewis quickly retrieved his .357-caliber pistol. "[The alleged burglar] made more noise than anybody I've ever dreamed of trying to break into a house," he remembers. When Lewis approached the door, he found a man holding a flashlight and a pickax. "What's there to think about?" he asks rhetorically. "I mean he was going to hurt me or I was going to hurt him." Lewis chose the latter, shooting his assailant. According to police, the suspect, who has a lengthy criminal record, limped away and was arrested nearby. (WTVF-TV, Nashville, TN, 11/24/08)

Good for you Mr. Lewis. But the ten ring is a little higher.

5) When a 37-year-old man started to unload items from his car, two men approached and jabbed what he believed to be a gun into his side. Fearing he was about to be shot, the man, who is reportedly an open-carry advocate, drew his 9 mm handgun and fired a round. He was unsure if he hit either of his assailants, but he heard a loud moaning sound as they fled. Police arrested one of the suspects when he sought medical aid for a gunshot wound. (News Journal, Wilmington, DE, 11/26/08)

Go ahead young man. You made your forefathers proud!

Tell me again why we shouldn't have the right to carry?

Is the local militia obsolete?

I don't think so. In the not too distant past (1942) the then Governor of Maryland Herbert L. O'Conor gave a radio address. The date was March 10, 1942. It was about as perfect a declaration of the value of a local militia as one can imagine...........

“The sincere hope of every person in Maryland is that our State may never experience invasion or attack. That we should consider such a thing as possible is in itself a terrible shock to the American state of mind. Nevertheless, with so much of the world overrun by the enemies of Democracy, and with the invasion of Java and New Guinea as well as other points in the Australian Archipelago fresh in our minds, we would be foolish, indeed, not to be prepared, as completely as possible, for any such happening, even here in Maryland.”

A large group of volunteers joined together and became known as the Maryland Minute Men.

He went on......

“The mission of the Maryland Minute Men is to furnish immediately, local protection against parachute troops, saboteurs, or organized raiding parties. It is planned that the units be confined to their own communities so that there will be assurance at all times that every residential section of Maryland will have protection…."

And.........

”For the present the hard-pressed Ordnance Department of the United States Army cannot be expected to furnish sufficient arms, ammunition, or equipment. Hence, the volunteers, for the most part, will be expected to furnish their own weapons. For this reason, gunners (of whom there are 60,000 licensed in Maryland), members of Rod and Gun Clubs, of Trap Shooting and similar organizations, will be expected to constitute a part of this new military organization.”

The radio address is too long a read to copy and paste verbatim so I took the parts that captured the essence of the total address.

Are we so foolish to think that circumstances could never arise that would cause the need for such an organization again?

Nicknames

I know that no one wants to give their real names on here and I can't blame anyone for it knowing the type of people who are out there just to cause everyone grief. Maybe we should all pick a nickname so that we can identify commentsa and who they come from. Who is up for that?

Defining our goals

The information provided herein is designed for you, the individual Eastern Shoreman, to learn, maintain, increase, or share with others the skills needed to survive a natural disaster, civil emergency or other catastrophic event.
This blog is open to all legal residents of the Eastern Shore who want to prepare themselves to survive and thrive in “worst case scenario” events.

Why not just leave all this "preparedness" stuff to “the authorities”?

Simply because history demonstrates that a well armed and regulated (trained) citizenry provides better "homeland security” than any paid “professional” ever could hope to do while safeguarding the freedom of all. Remember New Orleans? They were not prepared.

Examples abound of patriotic citizens deterring crime, thwarting invaders, rooting out and dealing with those who terrorize the innocent, as well as throwing off the yoke of tyranny (as in our own War for Independence from Great Britain). These feats all had a common thread: They required the average man or woman to arm, equip, and train themselves to repel the wolves that always seem to be ready to feast on the liberty of others. Be part of the solution!
Want to help prepare others?Do you have survival skills?Military experience?Readiness training?

Share your experience – we can always use more help.

Let's hear your ideas and thoughts.
